Top 5 Lash Aftercare Tips

Alright Ladies and Gents! I have been in the lash game for about 9 months now and I am loving it! I appreciate all my new clients that are trusting me to give them gorgeous lashes. I wanted to share my Top 5 tips to keeping eyelash extensions healthy and beautiful.

Tip #1 - Clean them! That’s right, just like washing your hair, your lashline can get oily, grimey, and even bring on hygiene related infections that may mean I’ll need to remove your lashes! Plus all of that sweat, oil, and makeup build starts to break down the adhesive! But all that is totally avoidable with cleansing your lashline regularly! I recommend using a lash safe cleanser daily to ensure a happy lash line and keep those lashes hanging around for a long time!

Tip #2 - Brush them! Brushing your eyelash extensions is not only a must-do for keeping your lashes looking flawless at all times, it also stimulates blood flow to your hair follicles bringing fresh nutrients and oxygen to your natural lashes. I recommend brushing the tops of your lashes first to line them up, then brush them up from underneath to give them lift!

Tip #3 - Avoid Waterproof Makeup- The beauty of lashes is just how much less makeup you need! And how much better the rest of the makeup you may or may not use looks when it’s on! Just make sure that any product that goes on the extensions is oil-free and NOT waterproof. That way you can clean your lashes every night and not worry about your makeup affecting your retention!

Tip #4 - Look, don't touch! Tugging, pulling or rubbing your eyelash extensions too aggressively can cause them to pull on your natural lashes. Natural lash health is a top priority of mine, so I’ll do my part to ensure your natural lashes are healthy and you do your part by not yanking them out!

Tip #5 - Maintenance! To keep your eyelash extensions looking fabulously full and fluffy, you can anticipate coming in every 2-3 weeks so we can safely remove the ones that have grown out and replace them with a freshie!

I hope these tips help!

Eyelash Extensions

Back in November I began my training for eyelash extensions. I completed my certification in January. I know most have 1-2 days workshops for certification; however my trainer did 2 days plus 3 hands on. I actually did 4 hands on sessions because she wanted to ensure that I was able to do a full set before certification.

I wanted to add lashes to my beauty business because I had a few past brides ask about wearing lashes on their honeymoon. Typically, strip lashes only last one day and it isn't recommended that you sleep in them. Adding this service allows me to offer them the option of having lashes after their wedding day.

Lashing takes a lot of patience due to the task being very tedious. I am learning that I will always be a student when it comes to eyelashes because there are so many factors that will affect the lashes. My goal is to always protect my client's natural lashes and provide neat and clean lash styles (no crazy looking lashes here).

I am excited about this new addition to my business! You can check out some of my lash work on my Instagram www.instagram.com/taneshawilliamsbeauty

When should you book your Makeup Artist for your wedding?

You'd be surprised how many brides call me less than 30 days from their wedding. This is one of the biggest days of their life and some seem to forget that makeup is just as important as the dress, venue, and photographer. Your makeup artist is a vendor too and they shouldn't be the last vendor your book.

You should be securing your beauty team 6-9 months out from your wedding at minimum. Do your research, read reviews, and ask for referrals.  This is the day that all eyes will be on your because you are the centerpiece of the wedding. The photos and memories will last forever and booking your makeup artist early means putting your best face forward for the rest of your life.

Why Limelight By Alcone?

I had searched months for a product that I could truly believe in that would benefit my clientele. I wanted a product that I could offer to the every day woman, but I wanted the product to be on a professional level. I noticed a lot of women just weren't taking good care of their skin. Your face is your canvas and makeup should be used to enhance your features.

There was this huge buzz about Limelight by Alcone. I knew of Alcone because they sell the best of the best in makeup products for professionals. Now they have their products available for the every day woman.

Limelight has the most amazing skin care products that are NATURAL! It takes less than a minute for chemicals from skin care products to get into your blood stream. Why Hire a Professional Makeup Artist For Your Wedding Day?

You'd be surprised how many brides neglect to hire a professional makeup artist for one of the biggest days in their life. You invest in a venue, you invest in a photographer, and you invest in the dress.  Please do not skimp on your face! Invest in a makeup artist that understands bridal beauty. You will be looking at your wedding photographs for the rest of your life, you are worth this investment. Yes, I know your cousin does good makeup on herself when you two hit the club, but that is totally different than bridal makeup. You want someone who understands what products work best for wedding photography. If there is ever a day in your life to get your makeup done right, it should definitely be for your wedding day. All eyes will be on you since this is your day to be the center of attention.

Does your cousin understand color theory? A professional makeup artist knows the importance of selecting the proper colors that will compliment your eyes and skin tone.  Deep tones with shimmery blue eyeshadow is a no no! You want your neck and face to match and all imperfections perfected. This is where the importance of having a bridal preview aka bridal trial comes in (that'll be a totally different post). Your wedding day is likely the day you will take the most photographs and your makeup should look amazing!

An experienced makeup artist practices the art of makeup and understands the proper makeup application techniques. They are also familiar with different facial structures, eye shapes, and skin textures. A professional will know how to enhance a bride's best features  while disguising other less flattering ones just by applying makeup. A great makeup artist will know how to fix your brows to best frame your face and cover that last minute pimple, so you can be camera ready.

Your wedding day is sure to be busy and you may have some unexpected issues that arise, but don't let your face be one of them. Wedding planning can be stressful, and on the day of, you want to feel relaxed.  An on location makeup artist will travel to your wedding prep location and provide a relaxing and pampering environment. You want someone who has experience coordinating timelines and can ensure a seamless flow while getting you and your bridal party flawless. You don't want to be late for your own wedding due to the lack of proper planning because you didn't hire a pro.

Yes, there is a cost for great makeup! Let's be honest, in the DMV area you will find a range of prices for makeup artists. If there is a makeup artist advertising super cheap prices for on-location wedding makeup, they are most likely lacking experience. Book your wedding makeup with one that has a portfolio, reviews, and a good reputation. The last thing you want to do is hire the wrong makeup artist for your wedding day. Remember, this entire day is an investment and you get what you pay for!
